Whether you’re starting a new ecommerce brand or already running one, this is a question you’ll have to answer at some point: should your products be priced in LBP or USD, and why does it even matter?
Without making this too long or making you read more than you need to, here’s the short version: 9 out of 10 times, you should be pricing in USD. Here’s why.
LBP Numbers Are Big, Confusing, and Hard on the Eye
LBP prices are long. Really long. And long numbers make people pause and think, which is exactly what you don’t want at the moment someone’s deciding whether to buy.
Say your product costs 2,340,000 LBP. The customer now has to do the math in their head, or reach for a calculator, just to figure out that’s actually $26. That pause, that little bit of friction, is enough to lose a sale. Which brings us to the second reason.
Almost Everyone in Lebanon Gets Paid in Dollars
Whether someone’s salary is $600 or $3,000, it’s listed in dollars. The agreement is made in dollars. So when a customer sees your price in USD, they can instantly tell if it fits their budget. There’s no converting, no guessing, no mental math standing between them and the “buy” button.
That instant clarity is worth more to your conversion rate than people give it credit for.
The 1 Out of 10 Exception
Now, as we said, 9 out of 10 times you should price in USD. But that remaining 1 out of 10 actually matters, and it’s worth knowing when it applies.
It’s for products that are conventionally sold and thought of in LBP. Think olive oil, mouneh, and similar traditional or local goods. These are categories where customers are already used to seeing and negotiating prices in Lebanese pounds, so switching to USD can actually feel out of place and hurt trust instead of building it.
The Takeaway
Default to USD. It’s clearer, faster to read, and matches how people already think about their money. Only switch to LBP for the specific product categories where it’s the local norm, not out of habit.
