How to Reduce COD Failed Deliveries in Lebanon

Cash on delivery is the biggest payment method in Lebanon, covering perhaps over 90% of transactions, and it’s still growing along with the ecommerce industry here.

The problem with COD is that there’s basically no commitment from the customer once they place the order. No money changes hands upfront, so order rejections and customers just ghosting you completely are always a possibility.

If you want to reduce failed cash on delivery orders in the Lebanese market, here’s what actually helps.

1. Make the delivery time clear

Delivery time has to be clear and visible to the customer while they’re ordering, there shouldn’t be any speculation about it. If someone doesn’t know when to expect their package, that’s already a reason for them to start doubting the order.

2. Social proof

A lot of the time, customers change their minds after the impulse buy phase fades, or they run into a competitor with a cheaper product or a more convincing ad.

This is where social proof and reviews from previous customers come in. Seeing that real people already ordered and got their stuff is what kills that hesitation before it turns into a cancellation.

3. Scarcity

Customers love an offer. When something’s for a limited time or almost out of stock, people tend to cancel less because of that fear of missing out.

But this has to be used carefully and honestly. If you fake it, customers will notice eventually, and it’ll hurt your brand way more than any short-term sale is worth.

4. Send a confirmation message

Right after the order is placed, send a confirmation message, preferably on WhatsApp. This locks in the order and works like an official statement that it actually happened.

Something like:

This is AliDoesEcom
Thank you for your order on our website
Order Number: xxxxx
Delivery time: 2–4 days
Order details: 1 x xxxxxx
Total: xxxx

It sounds small, but it’s often the difference between someone taking the order seriously and someone forgetting they even placed it.

At the end of the day, most failed COD orders come down to hesitation and uncertainty. The more you remove both of those, the fewer rejections and ghosted orders you’ll deal with.
